BEST JAPANESE RESTAURANT 2016: ROKC

ROKC in Hamilton Heights makes the Best of 2016 list for the second time since the tiny restaurant also serves up great bowls of ramen.  Of course the cocktails are spectacular and has the bar full most nights but the limited edition ramen is some of the most unique to be found in town.  Thick, heavy handed flavors are thrown out the window here and in its place is a light but complex stock similar to the dashi used in soba or udon.  The presentation is also more studied here and ROCK is one of the only Japanese noodle spots to include fresh bean sprouts as part of the dish.  There is also a raw bar as part of the mix but make sure to have one of the extraordinary cocktails when visiting this discreet ramen shop on Broadway by 141st Street.  More on those cocktails can be found in our past post: LINK
