BESPOKE: THREE KINGS DAY 2017
We always try to check out the Three Kings Day Parade at the beginning of January and this year's 40th celebration in El Barrio was as memorable as ever. Many local school kids take the morning off to watch the celebration of the gifts of the Three Kings which is an extended Christmas observation within many Caribbean cultures. El Museo Del Barrio sets everything up each year and the procession starts right at the viaduct on 106th Street with three gigantic puppets representing the royalty of the big day. A couple of flashy Father Christmas were also on hand, the requisite three camels and lots of instruments to ring in the day. Mayor Bill de Blasio, Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Congressman-Elect Adriano Espaillat marched at the front this year in show of support for the festive holiday tradition in East Harlem which is probably one of the most charming one to march down the streets of the city. Check out more photos from last year in our past post: LINK
