INTRODUCING: THE HARRY BELAFONTE LIBRARY
Another great bit of news for Black history month is that the library on 115th Street located just west of 7th Avenue has now been officially named The Harry Belafonte 115th Street Library. This branch of NYPL was officially founded back in 1908 and was designed by notable architects McKim, Mead & White. Mr. Belafonte's birth date was about a decade later in 1927 but many did not know that the iconic singer, actor and activist was one of the few Harlem Renaissance luminaries that was actually born in the neighborhood. For more on this historic Harlem library branch, check out the official NYPL website: LINK
