DEMOLITION: LAST CALL FOR LENOX LOUNGE

Harlem Bespoke: We walked by the site of the former Lenox Lounge by 124th Street on Lenox yesterday and noticed that  a construction crew was on site.  The first thought came to mind was that this was the end of the legendary location since renderings for a new building had been revealed earlier in the year.  Upon closer inspection of permits available, it was clear that what was left of Lenox Lounge will be gone by the end of the month or so.  This was probably the last of the original jazz facades that remained from the Renaissance years and it is unfortunate to see that a landmark status never came about.  For more on the new construction arriving on the site, check out our past post:  LINK

  1. What a loss for the neighborhood.

  2. Disgraceful.
There should have been protections via Landmarks. What a way to see it go.

  3. The fact that the building lasted as long as it did is surprising to me. But not the fact that the business underneath did not buy it. So again, we close another chapter of the few remaining businesses in Harlem.
