Saturday, July 15th, 2:00PM, Jazz For Curious Listeners at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, 58 West 129th Street, just east of Lenox Avenue. Joan Belgrave & Kirk Lightsey: Wearing All The Hats Vocalist Joan Belgrave wears many “hats.” She sings jazz, blues, gospel and R&B. She manages a 9-piece band. She also operated as a road manager for her husband, Detroit icon, Marcus Belgrave. Yet somehow, she also manages to always stay cool.
In this talk, Joan and her accompanist, 80-year-old piano legend Kirk Lightsey, share lessons from the bandstand and backstage learned over a lifetime in music. They’ll also read from the book they penned together with Lonnie Plaxico, Playing through the Years: Life & Times In this Business of Music.
