DRINK: TIKI, SMOKE AND CREAM AT THE HONEYWELL
Harlem Bespoke: We dropped by The Honeywell recently to check out the new drink selections at the notable Hamilton Heights hot spot on Broadway by 148th Street which provides quite a show for guests sitting at the bar. Those arriving early when doors open at 5:00PM can get a seat before the popular 1970s style lounge fills up for the evening and also see the action when there is a bit of sunlight in the space. With that said, our evening started with one of the festive tiki drinks that just keeps the summer going even though fall weather is quickly approaching.
Drinks like the refreshing Maria, Maria with the requisite rum shot have a fruity punch to them by way of coconut, agave and pineapple juice shaken in with a final foamy finish added to the top. A little freshly grated lime zest along with a miniature umbrella sets the mood. This is all quite apropos to the groovy vibes of the interior space which features funky vintages flourishes, a retro television set and turquoise blue leather diner seats that provide an expected pop of color.
Another favorite for the night was The Honeywell's dramatic take on an Old Fashion which was quite literally lit for a smokey flavor which really stood out and felt very grownup. All of the mixologist at hand apparently are quite good with a hand torch so be prepared for pyrotechnics in the course of the evening. There was also a dessert ice cream float which had whiskey, Bailey's and homemade ice-cream which made for the perfect end to an early night out. Cocktails have come a long way in the past 5 years and those who don't mind a little fire and ice should check out this uptown gem. More on The Honeywell can be found in our past post: LINK
