Harlem Bespoke: The National Black Theatre building has made some major news this month when it was announced that the owners secured a deal with an uptown developer. Everything will be contingent on zoning approval but if all works out, there will be a 20-story tower built at the location on the corner of 125th Street and Fifth Avenue. This will translate into 240 apartments and a new 30,000-square-foot theater space for the cultural organization that has been around since 1968. With this much residential density involved, there will have to be at least a 20 percent affordable housing component to the new construction so 48 such units might arrive in the neighborhood in the next few years.
