Harlem Bespoke: Classic New York City subway entrances might be a thing of the past now that the powers that be have chosen a more minimal look for some locations. The top photo shows the 116th Street stop on FDB with the iconic green globes but things are little different one stop south. Renovations have been going on at the 110th Street station all summer and now the plywood has been removed to reveal a stark, darker design. There are great modern upgrades such as digital maps or signs detailing arrival times of the trains but many of those have been added on to the traditional station entrances elsewhere in the city. In a town where a lot of the original character is being lost, we would rather see some of more iconic design elements preserved and the modern components can just be retrofitted to balance everything out.
