Harlem Bespoke: Anyone walking by the corner of Lenox and 110th Street might have noticed that a 1960s diner has suddenly appeared at the vacant commercial space on Central Park North right after the holiday break. Everything has come together quickly but those hoping for a new hot spot in the neighborhood might be a little disappointed.
We walked by earlier in the week when the exterior and interior was just starting to be installed at a very quick pace for a very good reason. It turns out that Gene Comptons is actually a movie set that will be filming in the coming weeks so the shopfront is only for show. With that said, there are not actually a lot of old school diners left uptown and having a spot with this vibe would have been a great addition. Once the film crew is done with production, the space will end up empty once more so anything could happen in the next year or so.
