REMEMBER: CORNER OF 126TH AND ST. NICHOLAS

Harlem Bespoke:  We always wondered what used to stand at the corner of West 126th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue on the east side since there has been an empty lot there for some time.  A broken row of brownstones on the side street provide a clue and it appears that they had matching architecture at one point in the past.  After a little more online digging, something finally came up.
New York City DOF has kept a record from the 1940s of most of the lots in the city and provides this as on online resource so we were able to pull up the above photo.  This building in question was actually more fantastic than we would have ever imagined and appears to have been designed specifically to blend in with the homes on the block.  Those matching townhouses did not only line 126th street but a few appear to also wrap around on the boulevard.  There is definitely a sense of neighborhood building here that has been lost in modern times and maybe one day the block will be restored once more with the same idea in mind.  Check out the official government site to access all archival photo inquiries: LINK
