Harlem Bespoke: Sugar Monk on FDB by 123rd Street has finally made some progress as far as the facade goes. We walked by the storefront on 8th Avenue yesterday and noticed that the former Serengeti Tea shop space had removed the former business' signage and a sophisticated new black awning is now in place. Small bars have historically been part of Harlem for decades but have since diminished in numbers in the past and Sugar Monk will definitely fill a void that demise of Lenox Lounge has left. A quick look into the space revealed a contemporary Art Deco aesthetic with dark neutral accents that will obviously make the newcomer one of uptown's destination spots in the coming weeks.
