Mama Africa: An Afro-Venezuelan Film at the
Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, 120 East 125th Street, between Park and Lexington Avenue. Mama Africa, directed by Afro-Venezuelan filmmaker Benito “Ifayemisi” Marquez, was filmed between the Republic of Nigeria and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Mama Africa is a stunning documentary that addresses the religious, cultural, and social expressions of the Yoruba communities and Afro-descendant peoples of southern Lake Maracaibo/Bobures (Venezuela).
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the Director and a musical and dance presentation by drummers, Marcos Espinoza and Miguel Ángel Monges. Dancer, Ana María Ayala, will be joining them in this celebration of the cinematic, musical, and cultural experience of the Afro-Venezuelan diaspora. RSVP for this FREE event online:
