Harlem Bespoke: There was a one day only pop-up fashion exhibit for Dapper Dan yesterday at the Schomburg on Lenox at the corner of 135th Street yesterday in honor of the local legend's event later on in the evening and we could not miss out. Luxury streetwear branding on hats, backpacks, necklaces and casual apparel did not happen back in 80s but the knock off culture back then made these items so iconic that the original house labels started producing versions of the copies to sell at higher prices. Styles that were once never featured in top tier fashion magazines have since become the trend that has defined the late teens into the new decade.
The lobby had a concise display set up with three looks which showed a variety of logo printed style featuring pattern or prints by Gucci, MCM and Louis Vuitton of which skyrocketed the local fashion guru to fame once more in recent years. There were also copies of magazines with cover stories from mostly the past
2 years since renewed interest came about but also some tear sheets from articles in the 80s discussing the original uptown business. Up on the entrance of the second floor was a media room which had large floating touch-screen panels with images from past custom designs for celebrity clients and also a CNN documentary playing on the side wall.
