BEST NEW CASUAL RESTAURANT 2019: FIELD TRIP
Harlem Bespoke: Heading towards the last few weeks of 2019, HB will be reviewing some of the best Harlem has to offer for the year. There has been an uptick in new openings this year and those establishments did shine with overall concept, design, quality of offerings and service. Next up is Best New Casual Restaurant 2019:
Chef Joseph Johnson debuted Field Trip on Lenox Avenue just south of 116th Street this past summer and the fast casual eatery has quickly become a local favorite with food selling out completely before closing on several occasions along with rave reviews from notable critics. We especially like that the global rice bowl eatery has a lot of international flare with black rice, coconut rice, gold rice and more being featured on a daily bases but also that an average is order is usually below $12 which is quite a deal these days.
There are also a variety to choose from which includes crispy fish, braised beef, fried chicken, grilled shrimp and even a satisfying vegetarian bowl. Fresh stir fried vegetables are also thrown in with each order so everything is delicious and nutritious at the same time. New menu items such as the seafood gumbo or vegan rasperry hibscus soft serve ice cream have been added over the weeks and we expect more to come in the new year. Chef JJ had previously placed many fine dining establishments on the map with his culinary talents but the uptown local has chosen to open his first solo endeavor as a gathering spot that everyone in the community can afford.
