Harlem Bespoke: New York State officials made announced that renters will have an extra layer of protection in the city by not having to pay broker fees from now on. Brokers have often charged renters up to 15 percent from new leases and now it is the landlord that will have to pay this fee going forward. Will this end up inflating rents? That will be the big unknown in the coming months but rents are now at an all time high in the city already and any increase might just deter getting a lease signed.
