REMEMBER: AMERICANS WORE MASK IN 1918
Harlem Bespoke: Over a hundred years ago during the great influenza pandemic of 1918, Americans actually had to adapt to wearing mask outside so this is actually not the first time around. As the above photo from the Library of Congress shows, many citizens got the message but those who still did not take things seriously were thrown in jail which actually did happen. Over 675,000 Americans would die by the end of the deadliest outbreak in history and world casualty was a massive 50 million lives lost.
We took a walk this weekend to get essential goods and could not help notice that there are still a handful of folks jogging, walking dogs, out with young children or just being generously clueless walking around. A vaccine will not happen for at least a year and so the population really has to focus on preventative measures which might end up needing some policing from the look of things currently. On the plus side, probably 90 percent of city dwellers have noticeably been wearing mask along with adopting social distancing rules and the single-day death toll for the month of April apparently was just cut in half today: LINK
