CONSTRUCTION: 471 WEST 125TH STREET

Harlem Bespoke: We saw that scaffolding went up at 471 West 125th Street in recent months and wondered if the building was endangered as far as demolition goes.  The smaller former house structure next door on the corner of Amsterdam had been demolished in the past year to make way for a new building and neither have landmark protection.  This part of the boulevard is unique because of the rare wood frame house at the location along with the taller building with one of the most ornate cornices still intact on 125th Street.  DOB permits show that repairs are now in order so just a good old polish up will come about in the near future.
