Harlem Bespoke: Public buses have all been free to ride for the past 3 months but that might be coming to an end soon. The city had to separate the drivers from exposure to riders during the pandemic and the only way to do that was to allow everyone to enter at the back door where one could not pay a fare. We road the bus today and noticed that one of those OMNY payment units have now been installed at the back entrance so this could be a sign of things to come. Revenue from ridership has plummeted for the first half of the year and now it would appear that the city has figured a way to get the public to pay and also still keep drivers socially distant.
