EAT: EMPANADAS MONUMENTAL
Harlem Bespoke: We stopped by Empanadas Monumental on Amsterdam between 125th and 126th recently to check out the very affordable selection of empanadas served up with a Caribbean flare. We are more familiar with the baked version of meat pies found in South America but the specialty here is served up Dominican style which fried and crispy on the outside. There is also a wide selection of fillings which are on the average of $2 for and the pies are larger than most available at other shops. An abundance of actual filling inside can also be found at Monumental which is another outstanding reason why the empanadas are so delicious. Featured above is the Ropa Vieja Res but there are about a dozen offerings to choose from such as Philly Steak, Eggplant & Cheese, Pepperoni, Shrimp or Spinach & Cheese. One pie will satisfy the average eater and two will definitely appease those arriving with a larger appetite.
