REMEMBER: THE ORIGINAL RED ROOSTER CIRCA 1979
Harlem Bespoke: There are hardly any photos of the original Red Rooster floating around but we did find a couple of images on the lounge that was around by Striver Row up until the late 70s or so. From the look of things, apparently an awning hung over the entranceway with a neon rooster directly mounted on the doorway.
Red Rooster was also spelled out obove the covered windows to the right of the entrance but all that is gone these days. The storefront by the corner of 138th Street and 7th Avenue appears to be used for a private business nowadays and most folks probably think that the Red Rooster restaurant on Lenox was also the original location. These archival images flash quickly on the documentary I remember Harlem which was released in 1980 so the film footage might actually be from the late 1970s: LINK
