ARCHITECTURE: THE HOTEL BY 125TH STREET STATION
Harlem Bespoke: It appears that the first uptown hotel to be built on city public housing land has been planned for the near future. There are renderings published online from the past year that has two towers rising over on top of what is now the commercial storefronts at the east corner of Broadway and 125th Street which is righ next to the elevated subway station. A design from Margulies Hoelzli Architecture shows a mixed-use development which will have the commercial component still intact below and then some. The article also mentions that the 300,000 square foot new construction will include a residential component so one of the aforementioned towers might be rentals. This probably all has to do with the progress of the Columbia University Manhattanville campus just across the boulevard and will definitely change the skyline of the neighborhood. With that said, big plans for 125th Street have been hit or miss and no ground breaking date has been mentioned in the last half of this year. More details on the CityRealty site: LINK
