REMEMBER: AT GRANT'S TOMB CIRCA 1903
Grant's Tomb, Date:1903, Seven African-American men on the steps of Grant's tomb on Riverside Drive, courtesy the Museum of the History of New York
Joseph Byron took a lot of early century photos of New York City but African-Americans rarely appeared in the notable photographer's work. The above image from 1903 at Grant's Tomb by 122nd Street is one of the few images on file and is the only one we can find of minorities in Greater Harlem at this time period. Grant's Tomb is the only resting spot for a United State president and was one of the biggest attractions in New York City over 100 years ago. More on Grant's Tomb can be found on our past post: LINK
