REMEMBER: FRANK'S ON 125TH STREET REVISITED

Harlem Bespoke:  Frank's at 314 West 125th Street by St. Nicholas Avenue was the most famous restaurant in Harlem for most of the 20th Century but not many photos of the institution remained after the business closed in in the early 1970s.   After doing our initial story last week, we did some more research and found the above city tax photos on file showing the grand awing on West 125th Street.  Apparently Frank's opened in back in 1917 and was black-owned from 1964 until the eatery's demise.  Steak and seafood were some of the popular menu offerings that attracted locals, tourist and politicians for over half a century according to an old Times article.  The neighborhood was pretty diverse during the last half of Frank's run and the diners were predominantly white during the day and majority black socialites during the evenings.  Check out our previous post for a current photo of the address and more on the fascinating history: LINK
