Harlem Bespoke: We always wondered what was standing over by the only townhouse on 145th Street just east of Amsterdam and discovered an archival photo from the 1940s that provides a clue. Number 481 West 145th Street is actually at the far right of the top photo but apparently had a twin on the block. This is another one of those situations where a substantial part of the neighborhood was demolished at some point in time and the housing element never returned. Somehow the before photos always look so much more appealing than what happens afterwards in these situations since the architecture was much more uniform.

REMEMBER: 481 WEST 145TH STREET C. 1940
