Harlem Bespoke: The former school building on West 145th Street by Broadway took 30 years to restore because of a lot of local politics but it all finally happened back in 2016 as can seen from the lower photos. What was especially problematic was that developers back in the mid early aughts started throwing money at the project and tried to convince the community that only alterations or demolition with a tower built on top could help finance the restoration project. That did not work out since Community Board 9 prevented this from happening and the site was fully restored with affordable housing put in place. The Hamilton Theater up the block is now going through something similar with a tower proposal so lets hope that the right direction can be achieved once more to help preserve the heritage of Harlem: LINK
