REMEMBER: CARRIAGE HOUSES ON 141ST STREET

Harlem Bespoke:  One of our favorite sets of identical buildings can be found at 305-307 West 141st Street by Frederick Douglass Boulevard but we never realized until recently that there was a secret to this address.Larger portals out front have been bricked over to make way for more standard doors in past decades and archival photos provide a clue to the original purpose of the buildings.  By the time the 1940s rolled around, it appears that everything was used as a row of ornate garages but suspect that these were fancy stables for carriages at one point in time.   The other possibility is that they could also have been a more modest 19th century fire station which would also make a whole lot of sense also. We could not find a lot on line so any tips out there would definitely be appreciated.
