EAT: TAMPOPO KITCHEN READY FOR TAKEOUT

Harlem Bespoke:  Tampopo Kitchen quietly opened for delivery and takeout in October and we did not realize this until we walked by to check on the storefront at 805 West 187th Street by Fort Washington Avenue.  Even though the sushi bar is not open for dine-in service, the trip over for the pickup order was well worth the visit.
As can be seen from the above photos, the interior is quite dramatic with massive Japanese paper lantern engulfing the entire ceiling.  This is all quite unexpected for such a tiny space and is probably the most beautiful interior we have seen uptown in such a limited expanse.  So how was the food?

We ordered some sushi and had no doubt the quality would be there but also was very excited about the earth-friendly packaging.  The paper containers just are more natural then the generic plastic that is ubiquitous at so many Japanese spots these days and the dining experience was more elevated with this presentation.  Pictured above is the negi toro maki which melted on the tongue with fatty richness and the super fresh sashimi appetizer with a minty shiso leaf as a garnish which is also quite edible.

Hours now are from 4:00PM-10:00PM all week except for Tuesday which is the one day the eatery has off.  Those who want stop by to take a look and put in an order can take the A train or the M4 bus to 181st Street.  There is also an official website to make an order for those who want to do so beforehand: LINK
