BESPOKE: COMMUNITY SPACE AT LOCAL CHURCHES

Harlem Bespoke:  Historic churches provide such unique spaces for the community and one uptown location has maybe come up with an adaptive reuse idea that could help continue the longevity of beloved local heritage sites. Our Saviour's Atonement Lutheran Church still has mass on a regular bases but a lot of other activities outside of religious services can be found within.  Walking past the Bennett Avenue just and 189th Street location in Washington Heights, one can see that a lot organizations are set up within.  There is a pottery studio, Kung Fu classes, classical music performance space, dance classes and more.

This might be a better way to sustain large local landmarks going forward instead of the usual real estate land grab situation and would be beneficial to all uptowners old or new in the forthcoming decades.  WeWork or a similar shared office space setting could also be interesting in a grand historic setting.  Hopefully developers and local institutions team up in a more creative way going forward and find solutions to saving cherished parts of the neighborhood.
