Harlem Bespoke: A new year has arrived and some of the buildings uptown have a new outlook! Number 601 West 148th Street on Broadway has been under scaffolding for some time now but the address in Hamilton Heights has recently had a facade reveal. There are a lot aesthetic elements to consider when fully restoring a historic building and the cornice at top is the crown that is often missing. As mentioned in several of our past posts, building owners have neglected this detail in the latter half of the 20th century but nowadays go for the complete package when financing the rejuvenation of the neighborhood. Interestingly enough, the cornice was also missing next door but was put back in place about 10 years ago.
