DONATE: A YOUTH GARDEN AT ST. NICHOLAS PARK

Harlem Bespoke:  The Youth Garden fundraiser for gardening supplies at St.Nicholas Park has almost reached its goal of $5,000 but is short by $240 and so we had to write a post to see if anyone could help out with beautifying one of Central Harlem's green space this springtime.  Everything is being organized in tandem with the NYC Parks Department and this is a great way to contribute with one of the great park local volunteer groups. Friends of St. Nicholas Park will clear and replant an overgrown area adjacent to the playground at 129th and St. Nicholas Terrace to create a Children’s Garden. The garden will be designed by NYC Parks employee Kim Wickers using "Hens and Chicks" (sempervivum) as well as yuccas. Sempervivum are succulent perennials that form mats composed of tufted leaves in rosettes. In favorable conditions, they spread rapidly via offsets or chicks, making for a spectacular ground cover. Once planted, the garden is designed to need very little maintenance.  More details and how to donated can be found on the official fundraising site: LINK
