Repertorio Español was founded in 1968 by Artistic Director René Buch and Producer Gilberto Zaldívar. Becoming one of the most successful Off-Broadway theaters, the Company was created with the mission of producing Spanish-language theater from Latin America and Spain, and plays written by Latinx artists. In this special collaboration, Harlem Stage and Repertorio Español co-present In the Time of the Butterflies/En El Tiempo de las Mariposas, a fictionalized account of the story of the courageous Mirabal sisters from the Dominican Republic, based on Julia Álvarez’s popular novel.
