CAB CALLOWAY AND MANY MORE AT MAYSLES CINEMA

Harlem Bespoke: Home to Harlem presents Harlem through an archival lens as both an actual home for Black citizens and families… and as a location in the popular imagination of African Americans, by exploring the various intersections of documentary, amateur films, home movies, musical shorts, nontheatrical materials, family archives and the preservation of cultural artifacts in Harlem.  

Thursday, June 23rd, 7:30PM-9:00PM, Home to Harlem: Cab Calloway and Many More, in-theater screening at Maysles Cinema, 343 Lenox Avenue by West 127th Street.  A compilation of B&W and color 16mm home movies, between 1948 and 1955, shot by Cab Calloway and his wife, Zulme “Nuffie” Calloway, with audio from transcription disks in the Cab Calloway Collection.  More details on the free film event can be found at the Maysles Cinema site: LINK
