SEE: COTTON COMES TO HARLEM AT ST. NICHOLAS PARK

Harlem Bespoke:  Maysles Cinema will be screening the classic crime drama Cotton Comes to Harlem at the outdoor plaza at St. Nicholas Park this weekend so grab a blanket or folding chair and some snacks and enjoy the crime drama which features a lot of scenery from Harlem in 1970 that some might recognize.

Friday, June 10th, 7:45PM-9:30PM, Cotton Comes to Harlem outdoor screening at St. Nicholas Park, at 135th and the James Baldwin Lawn. The directorial debut of actor Ossie Davis (who briefly appears in a scene from Edward Lewis’ Life In Harlem) adapts the 1965 novel from Harlem Renaissance author Chester Himes. Coffin Ed (Raymond St. Jacques) and Grave Digger Jones (Godfrey Cambridge), two plainclothesmen on the Harlem detail, are assigned to investigate the goings-on of suspicious local preacher Deke O'Malley (Calvin Lockhart), whose "Back to Africa" political movement turns out to be a scam to bilk the community of their hard-earned cash, with the scam-money hidden in a bale of cotton. More details for this FREE event at the Maysles Cinema site: LINK
