BESPOKE: THE GRAFFITI TUNEL IN THE HEIGHTS

Harlem Bespoke:  We had post up on the famous graffiti tunnel in the Heights back in 2018 and there was some new this week that the MTA had it all painted white.  Apparently the graffiti is slowly creeping back based on recent reports and the blank canvas is now prime for another era of public art.  See below for our previous post.

The most colorful subway station in the city could arguably be the 191st Street 1 Station stop in the Heights since it literally is a piece of art. Those traversing the 900-foot-long tunnel all have view of the half dozen murals commissioned by the city which have inadvertently become the canvas for local graffiti artists that have also added their signature touch. All of the artwork probably could use a touch up but the overall affect is still quite mesmerizing.  Archangel appears to be major tagger in the tunnel at the front end but more demure signatures can be seen throughout the passageway.  This is a pretty cool location to film or do a photo shoot at but appears to still be a hidden gem in Washington Heights.
