Harlem Bespoke: The Wiz (1978), director Sidney Lumet's spectacular version of the hit 1974 Broadway musical featuring an all-star Black cast and based loosely on L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Thursday, January 26th, 6:30PM-9:00PM, Moonlight & Movies: The Wiz at Museum of the City of New York, 104th Street and Fifth Avenue. Set in a dreamscape version of New York City, the film stars Diana Ross as Dorothy (reimagined as a Harlem schoolteacher), a 20-year old Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, and other major stars including Nipsey Russell, Lena Horne, Richard Pryor, Mabel King and Ted Ross.
