REMEMBER: NEXTDOOR TO THE VICTORIA CIRCA 1940

Harlem Bespoke: We finally got around to doing a post on the couple of buildings next door the Victoria Theatre building on 125th Street between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton.  Both facades have completely been altered but their past are quite interesting in our opinion.  To the right was a neoclassic white bank building which was quite beautiful but somehow was dismantle or destroyed decades later.  There is a small arched former bank building on East 116th Street that has a similar vibe and is now still standing.

To the left, one can see in the top photo that Walker Beauty Shop had a flagship storefront on 125th Street back in the day.  Harlem history buffs would probably surmise that this was a forgotten location of one of Madam C.J. Walker's businesses that helped make the black entrepreneur one of the wealthiest women in the nation at the time.  Check out our past post for more on the famous Madame Walker: LINK
