MAP: WEST HARLEM COMMUNITY BOARD 9

Harlem Bespoke: On the west side, Community Board 9 entails Morningside Heights and the West Harlem neighborhoods of Manhattanville and Hamilton Heights, from 110th Street to 155th Street. Eastern boundaries are a little off the grid since Morningside Park, St. Nicholas Park and Jackie Robinson Park divide these neighborhoods from Central Harlem. Morningside Heights technically ends at 122nds Street to the north and this is a particular distinction that many mix up for one reason or another. Manhattanville ends at 135th Street and Trinity Cemetery is part of Hamilton Heights up by 155th Street.  Check out the Community Board 9 website for more details on the neighborhood:  www.cb9.org

MAP: EAST HARLEM COMMUNITY BOARD 11

Harlem Bespoke:  East Harlem, the neighborhood east of 5th Avenue, is represented by Community Board 11 and its northern borders are more often confused by almost everyone these days. In the latter half of the 20th Century, the area below 125th Street has been known as El Barrio for its then predominant Puerto Rican community but today has a substantial Central American population. Looking at the CB11 map, one can see that there is a triangular section above 125th Street to East 142nd Street that is part of East Harlem. This section has been called the East Harlem Triangle in the past (just right above the small square of Marcus Garvey Park at the left).  To the South, East 96th Street is the official transition point from the Upper East Side to Harlem.  Check out the CB11 site for more information: www.CB11M.org
