☞ REVIVE: The Gateway Condo Restoration


The Gateway Condominiums on FDB/8th Avenue (between 113th and 114th Street) might be building up for more density but the development is also a restoration project. We found an original photo of the block (lower photo) from Wired New York that shows the site around 5 years ago and one can see that there clearly is a building missing towards the end of the block. The top photo shows that lot today which reveals an approximate copy of the original building that must have been missing for decades. The developers did such a good job with the new construction that they even had the cornice replicated at the roofline to match the existing buildings. The project was stalled in the past couple of years because of bank finance issues but now it is speeding towards a finish date sometimes early next year.   2. Agreed a nice restoration job, although it looks a little odd without the fire escape. I might have added one just for contextual purposes, although it obviously would partially obstruct some views.
