Saturday, July 10th, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM at 5th Avenue and 124th Street. Harlem's next great farmers' market will be arriving on the north side of Marcus Garvey Park this coming weekend! Come out and shop the brand new Mount Morris Park Historic District Farmers' Market on its first day and support the organic and local grown movement uptown. Congratulations to the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Association for bringing it all together. The closest subways to this location is the 2,3 train at 125th Street. MMPCIA.org. Sweet! With the recent addition of the Olive Market in the Neighborhood, fresh vegetables are becoming a reality!
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Although, I am going to feel pretty guilty about heading here instead of the one on 110th. Still, there are more than enough people around 110th & Morningside to give that one the support it needs. Get out there!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is interested in helping bring a Farmer's Market to St. Nicholas Park, The Friends of St. Nicholas Park need people to help!

Thanks!
Cute picture!
ReplyDeleteAny word on what kinds of stands / products will be at the market?
ReplyDeleteAnd on a somewhat unrelated note, does anyone know of any compost drop-offs in Harlem? I've been trying to find one for months, but have had little luck. I hate having to haul my veggie scraps all the way to Union Square.
9:44 check with the community garden on 124th street (5th/Lenox); also there might be info. at the workshop below

BACKYARD COMPOSTING WORKSHOP
Saturday, July 10, 11am-1pm
Unity Park, W 128th Street between Fifth Avenue and Lenox Avenue
----------------------------
Backyard composting workshop will get you all ready to start converting your
yard/garden waste and kitchen scraps into a rich organic fertilizer to feed back
to your plants, just like nature intended! Workshop will cover composting
basics, set-up options, compost application, and troubleshooting. NYC-specific
composting issues will also be addressed. Outdoor compost bins will be available
for purchase at a reduced price. Registration is required. Workshop fee $5 per
person, cash only. Hosted by the Lower East Side Ecology Center.
FYI: I heard of a farmers market that was created with the help of the Council on the Environment of New York City (http://www.cenyc.org/greenmarket). They somehow set it up so that those on public assistance can use their cards for purchases...this would help those in need with regards to accessing fresh and healthy produce.
