☞ REVIVE: Catching up with The Douglass Park

The Douglass Park (a sister affordable rental building to the Balton on St. Nicholas Avenue and 127th Street) can be found making some major progress in recent weeks. The top photo shows the huge lot at 128th Street and FDB/8th Avenue in the beginning of Spring when the ground work was just being finished. There were literally only a couple of older building standing on that block since the majority of the (mostly likely burnt out) tenements in the area were razed over a couple of decades ago. The lower photo shows that the contextually zoned new building has topped off and the facade is currently getting bricked. As noted in the past, this is probably one of the last huge lots to be found on upper FDB so it's great to see the land put to good use. Read more in our past post on the Balton to see how the other side of the street is faring: LINK. Let's hope they get some good retail in these buildings so that this corner of Central Harlem can get some major foot traffic. Spring 2011 is the apparent move-in date. 1. Agreed that this whole block is a good spot for retail, right on the A/D express trains. Hopefully this will also encourage the owners to fix up the boarded buildings on the south side of 127 too.

Based on comparing the photos at historicaerials.com, looks like most of the block was demolished in the late 70s.
