☞ SLEEP: Aloft to Open on October 21st

Some up-to-date information on Aloft has just been sent to our inbox with the opening pushed back a couple of weeks to October 21st. We took the top photo this weekend and it looks like that northside corner structure is the last thing that needs to be completed. Peering through the windows, the guest rooms seem to be fully furnished so the opening should really happen this month.

Aloft Hotel will be the brand’s first ever NYC property and is the first Harlem hotel to open in over 40 years.  The folks at Aloft describe the 124 room hotel as being inspired by W Hotels in its design and social atmosphere but providing "style at a steal."  The new building at the corner of 124th Street and FDB/8th Avenue was designed by the renowned Rockwell Group and features "loft-like guestrooms, a buzzing w xyz bar scene in the open lobby, an urban-inspired grab-and go café and industrial design elements throughout." Check out more details on the Aloft website: www.StarwoodHotels.com

  1. OK. Good news. Happy to see them take an extra couple of weeks to get things absolutely spot on. No point rushing things and not getting it right first time.

The area around 124th & FDB is really starting to see a lot of improvement. Rumors of Busboys & Poets (a very successful cafe/bookstore from DC) opening in the retail space of 2280 FDB, the Italian cafe/sandwich shop on the corner of 121st & St. Nicholas/FDB which is showing a lot of progress. This is setting up for an exciting 2011.
