☞ DWELL: Uranian Phalanstery at 410 Convent

The 16 foot wide, 2-family, townhouse at 410 Convent Avenue went into contract back in August and now public records reveal that the Hamilton Heights property was bought up by a notable East Village institution.   Back in September, the press was all a buzz about the 60-year-old bohemian art enclave called the Uranian Phalanstery packing up and leaving the East Village for some undisclosed location in Harlem: LINK.   In the meantime, the townhouse at No. 410 Convent just went into contract in August at a reduced asking price of $1.495 million from the original of $1.795 million: LINK.  Based on records published at the end of December, the 3,328 square foot home finally sold at the end of 2010 for $1.45 million all together to the East Village artists.  The Phalanstery's old two buildings that were left behind in the Village did not get the landmark recognition that the locals had wished for (since they were sold to a developer) but this new location will not have that same problem since it is located in a landmark neighborhood.

  1. Hope they take better care of this building than they did the downtown buildings.
