REVIVE: MOUNT MORRIS EXTENSION ON CALENDAR

The extension to the Mount Morris Park Historic District is one step closer to becoming an official NYC landmark neighborhood since the Preservation Commission has officially voted to review the designation on their calendar as of April 14th.  This is the first step in the process and has taken many years to even get to this point for some reason.  Mount Morris Park is one of oldest designated historic districts in the city but the blocks protected were only on Lenox and the architecture immediately to the east of the avenue towards Fifth Avenue from 119th to 123rd Street.  In the near future, homes to the west of Lenox will now be protected even to 118th Street based on the map issued by the government (outlined in red as seen above) but the buildings on ACP will not be included.  Check out the full PDF for more details: LINK

  1. Great news! If this is the first step, what is the next step?

    1. This is the beginning of a formal process which usually means that the commission has finally decided to make a decision. Once the date has been set, there will be a review and then an announcement.
