ARCHITECTURE: ST. THOMAS COMMERCIAL CORNER

The lot at the corner of West 118th Street by the former St. Thomas Catholic Church now has a rendering up revealing the new building that will rise on site.  Some might remember that a 10-story tower had been planned a couple of years ago for the address behind the church but it just appears that the space just east of the house of worship will be put into use for the commercial component of the development.  Check out the rendering of the new construction after the jump.

Based on approved DOB permits, 147 St. Nicholas Avenue will rise 6 levels when completed and one can see from the photo that some of the air rights from the Hebrew School next door will be part of the plan.  There is not much else to report here since the building is rather uninspiring compared to the church next door but the finish date is set for sometime in Fall 2017.  As mentioned, there is land directly behind the church on the 117th street side of the street which might be the taller building with the residential units when all finishes up.  More in our past post: LINK

  3. I don't know how meaningful it is but the text on the permit says the construction is for a "horizontal and vertical expansion" of the school.
