☞ READ: Over-Gentrification
Yesterday's New York Post had an interesting article on what is really happening to all the small businesses on 125th Street. One of the the casualties, M&G Diner, which closed last July, is apparently a buy-out from a developer who wants to make way for a condo development on that corner. It gets better. Now, all the financing has dried up -- and the fourteen projects that have removed historic businesses and demolished buildings do not seem to be going forward. Click here to see the map of questionable developments that have halted. What the community has left are desolate buildings and open lots. This hyper-development is not sustainable in Harlem since Harlem never wanted to be midtown Manhattan or the Financial District. When will City Hall realize that emphasizing the history, culture and original architecture of this region is the way to revitalization? Do we need more malls in this part of town? NY Post: LINK

My Aunt lives right around the corner from M&G. I can't remember a time when it wasn't there.
