☞ VOYAGE: The Jazz Age Lawn Party

The Jazz Age Lawn Party has been held in early June for the past four years on Governor's Island. The event features vintage cars, live big band jazz, and a wood dance floor with lessons in the morning and dancing soon after. Plus, most of the visitors dress up for the occasion in 1920's and 1930's garb. Men, mostly in their 20's, 30's and quite a few in the 60's, made an appearance wearing seersucker suits, boater hats and saddle shoes. The ladies are in their flapper glory with cloche hats, swing dresses and parasols. This is also fun for the kids, and quite a few families made the trip this year. The top photo is the dance lesson before the big band started to play. The last photo is an example of the cars on display with a fan who posed with each vehicle for his mother.
