The New York Post had an interesting article on Michel Madie, who converted a West 141st Street townhouse into a bed and breakfast, yoga retreat and performance space that he has dubbed The Taj Maharlem. An eccentric 51 year-old with a taste for all things New Age and exotic, this New Harlem guru comes originally from France and has been a Flamenco dancer, model, actor, cook and photographer before becoming a real-estate agent. Since the block is considered a residential area, the community board has not been a big fan of the Flamenco events and the Jazz Festival that Madie has thrown in the past months, but we did note on another blog that a long time resident of the block thought that "Temple M" (its official name) was the best thing to happen to the street. Apparently, all of this bohemia has a price tag to it, too. One can buy the entire renovated property for $12 million. Read more of the Stefanie Cohen article in the NY Post: LINK.
