☞ DWELL: The 226 Lenox Harlem Brownstone

What is the going price for a habitable, historic Lenox Avenue townhouse these days? Apparently it's $1.49 million or buy it alongside the adjoining townhouse for $2.7 million. The Lenox Avenue brownstone is a 20 foot wide, five floor, neo-Romanesque building, which has great bones, and the woodwork inside looks to be some of the best in all of Harlem. This is prime Mount Morris Park in a buyer's market so, what's not to love? The brownstone at 226 Lenox Avenue is in between 121st and 122nd Street with the nearest subway being the 2,3 express train at 125th Street. House photo by Ulysses.

  1. this is a mortuary or 1/2 of one -- this is where the bodies were prepared. So, one has to think about that a bit, especially when you tour this building and ponder the exquisite fragrance

Also, the 2.7 million price was for 2 buildings together. This one and the adjoining functioining mortuary, which is connected through a door to this one . How is that for spookiness!

  2. The Bailey Mansion was also a funeral home so that scenario is quite common in these old neighborhoods. Any old house has a history so it just depends on the property and the buyer. For the right price, it will eventually sell.

  3. I've got no issue with superstition -- just lack the cash at the moment. Good photos...
