☞ SEE: Morningside Height Circa 1906

Ernest Lawson's 1906 painting of Morningside Heights is a beautiful and telling portrait of the then changing western reaches of West Harlem. The most notable structure is the huge cathedral vault of St. John the Divine sitting on top of the hill of the park. Another interesting structure is that of the old St. Luke's hospital building which today no longer has the distinct dome on top of the building. See our previous post on American, turn of the century painter, Ernest Lawson: LINK. Take the 1 train to 110th Street and walk east towards Morningside Avenue to see what this view looks like today.
