☞ SEE: Bruce Davidson's East Harlem
Documentary photographer Bruce Davidson was the focus of an article in Sunday's New York Times. Although more known for gritty and down-trodden images of teenage gangs in Brooklyn during the 1960's, another source of inspiration for Mr. Davidson was that of East 100th Street. To look at the breadth of work in the East Harlem series is to really see a glimpse of poverty back in that decade. The black and white photos are atmospheric in their mood and some of the images provide a heavy dose of melancholy. Occasionally, in portraits such as the one above, one can find strength, perseverance and even grace. See more in the Times slide show: LINK
